FAQ

What will we find at Far Fetched Designs?

Far Fetched Designs is filled with a carefully curated offering of giftware, jewellery, home furnishings, artwork, children’s clothing, furniture pieces and more.

All of our products are either handmade, locally designed or made ethically. Primarily we focus on local makers, but we do fill out the range by bringing in products sourced a little further away, so long as they are handmade and ethically produced.

How does it work?

We’ve worked hard to create a unique business model that allows us to stock products that might otherwise not make it into a retail environment

The setup is not unlike a co-op, where we share the rent and staffing costs with the makers, and then take a commission fee from each sale to cover other operating expenses such as EFTPOS and credit card facilities, bags and packaging, merchandising, advertising and promotion.

What makes it different?

We work hard to track down and source products not often seen in retail spaces. We attend a lot of maker and design markets looking for new and fresh ideas to give our stores a point of difference, and our customers really appreciate it. When it’s time to choose a gift for someone, shopping at Far Fetched Designs gives buyers the opportunity to buy a truly unique gift that is quite often one of a kind, or in a lot of instances can be customised by the maker themselves. Offering this kind of straight-from-the-source service helps make Far Fetched Designs unique.

How can l sell products in your store?

What is Boomerang Bags?

Boomerang Bags is a community driven initiative, dedicated to the phasing out of single use bags.  Far Fetched Designs are proud to be the organisers and distributors of Boomerang Bags to traders within Seddon Village.  Participating stores are given handmade cloth bags to offer to customers for use, that can then be returned to any participating store for re-use.

All bags are made by volunteers at monthly sewing bees, and are made from donated materials.  All are welcome at the sewing bees, regardless of sewing ability!  The sewing bees are held on the third Thursday evening of the month, 6.30-9.30pm, at Handmakers Factory 84b Charles St, Seddon (above Far Fetched Designs).

Dates for the 2019 sewing bees are as follows:

21 February  |  21 March  |  16 May  |  20 June  |  18 July  |  15 August  |  19 September  |  17 October

* Please note - there is no sewing bee in April due to school holidays/Easter Break.
