About Us

Hello! We are Rachael DiMauro and Belinda Miller, creators and owners of Far Fetched Designs.  We started Far Fetched Designs in July 2014 and after 4 pop up stores, we opened our very first permanent space in Seddon in June 2016.

We have always been impressed by the amazing and innovative products made by talented people found at the markets around Australia. In creating Far Fetched Designs, we really wanted to be able to bring the rare and beautiful handcrafted object to people who didn’t visit craft markets, and never saw the wonderful products we did. 

But more than that, we wanted to create space and opportunity for small businesses and sole traders. For people who wanted to work for themselves, who derived great pleasure in creating things with their hands. It was important that Far Fetched Designs strongly supported small and local businesses in a sustainable way.

Far Fetched Designs gives all makers the opportunity to give retail a go. While we do have an application and selection process to ensure a good broad range of products is on offer; we encourage every crafty person to apply, no matter how small their business is.  At Far Fetched Designs, we primarily don’t buy wholesale, but prefer to work more like a co-op; splitting rent and staff costs up front, and taking a small commission on each sale. We don’t set prices, that’s all up to each maker & artist, but we do everything else, from merchandising, social media, advertising, staffing, packaging, customer service – the lot. All the makers need to do is drop off stock and then concentrate on what they do best – creating new products!

When you visit Far Fetched Designs, you’ll find a broad range of unique, modern and quirky gifts, most of which are made by local people. Every piece has a story – and quite often we know that story. When you visit our store, the person who will most likely greet you is one of us (although we welcomed the wonderful Alison to the team in late 2018, and she covers our Sundays and Mondays now)! It’s important to all of us that we ensure our makers and their products are being presented, explained and sold with the attention to detail that went into making them. Customers love knowing where something has come from and how it is made; and because we have such intimate working relationships with all of our stockists, we’re often able to get customised products made to order. Our customers tell us how refreshing it is to be able to buy someone a gift and know there aren’t 100,000 of them out there in different stores! – and we agree!

Our permanent Far Fetched Designs store opened in June 2016 at 84 Charles Street, Seddon.  The store is open 7 days a week excluding public holidays (see Facebook to check)
